Ten Two Twelve

I’ve had this quilt done for a little while, but am just now getting around to taking pictures/posting it. I love everything about this quilt. The fabric (thank you Julie!), the hand quilted chevron pattern (yummmm, hand quilting makes it exceptionally soft and yummy), the pieced binding, the orange polka dot backing. It makes me so happy and even though it is still 86 degrees outside, I am snuggling up in it at night – just because.

The Specs:
57 inches x 75 inches
Jack + Lulu: It's a Shore Thing pieced quilt top {Cabana Stripe in Red and Navy, Seagulls in Navy and Blue, Polka Dot in Red, Navy and Orange, Sling Chair in Red and Blue and Beach Umbrella in Aqua and Navy}
Jack + Lulu: It's a Shore Thing backing {Polka Dot in Orange}
Pieced binding using fabrics from quilt top
Chevron quilting using Perle Cotton Thread {in White and Medium Tangerine}

Nine Eighteen Twelve

I whipped up this little baby blanket today while Macey was at school. The white fabric is a super soft sheet from Target, and the rest of the pieces are scraps from other projects.  I love a project that I can start and (mostly) finish in one day. This will be one of Beck’s Blankets*. Love these sweet gifts of love.

I think my favorite part of this quilt is the backing. Such a lovely little flower print. I picked it up a few years ago when it was on clearance and wish I’d have gotten a few more yards of it.

*Each year we (myself, my amazing family, and some very, very generous friends) make enough quilts for each baby in the NICU at St. Mark’s Hospital. We deliver them on Christmas Eve to the staff at St. Mark’s and ask the staff to leave them for each family as they come to visit their babies on Christmas Day. We do this in honor of our son Beck, who passed away at St. Mark’s Hospital, and in honor of our daughter, Macey, who was the recipient of a beautiful gift the Christmas that she spent in the hospital.

Nine Fourteen Twelve

My mom and I did a whole bunch of canning on Wednesday. Bottles and bottles of canned tomato soup, as well as mashed up peaches to freeze for homemade ice cream, and a couple of homemade peach pies. Too.die.for. My mom is a cooking/canning ninja and I am always happy to go and help a wee bit and be rewarded with oodles of yummy food. And NOTHING says Fall to me more than a bowl of homemade tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Anywho, in my “prepare for winter” mentality, I thought I’d better get a few quilts basted before the snow flies. I like to baste my quilts in my driveway (as opposed to my turkeys, which I baste in my kitchen), which doesn’t fly when the snow does. This quilt has been pieced, bordered and ready to go for years (no seriously, like probably 4 years or so. Sad. Really sad). My mom brought this Hawaiian fabric back from (you guessed it) Hawaii. I la-la-love it and can’t believe it has taken me so long to get to quilting it. I am trying to be better about finishing a few projects that have been sitting around for a while.

Now when the winter chill sets in, I’ll be able to cozy up by the fire (who am I kidding, I’ll be cozying up in front of the TV) and do some quilting!

Nine Ten Twelve

I feel like most of my projects lately have been Christmas projects. I’m trying really hard to be on top of things this year. My husband makes fun of me relentlessly for doing Christmas projects during the summer,  but if I wait until after Thanksgiving (when Adam thinks it is okay to break out the Christmas tunes and start getting ready), it just doesn’t get done. So, so far so good. Most of the projects I can’t post about yet because they will be gifts, but I’m making good progress on this little number:

Just need the borders now, then it’s off to the quilters!

Eight Twenty-Nine Twelve

This was the project I worked on today while Macey took a little cat nap (is this really hot weather making anyone else feel like napping mid-day?).

It’s a sample block for a project that my friend Kersten and I are working on. Kersten mentioned a while back that she wanted to learn how to quilt. When I asked if she had a project in mind, she said she had a Pinterest board full of modern quilts that she really liked. I told her to send me a picture of one that she wanted to take a stab at. I spent a few nights studying the picture Kersten sent me and ultimately graphed each of the 16, 16-inch blocks out on paper.

It’s not something I’ve ever done before and it has been so much fun. And believe it or not, I think it will be a very manageable project for a first time quilter. I can’t wait to get started with these beauties…

Eight Twenty-Eight Twelve

I am trying to start finish my quilt for the Festival of Trees earlier than I did last year. So far, so good. I have the blocks all finished and went to pick up the material for the borders and the backing this past weekend. And so far, no tears (although it was a close call when the lady at the fabric store asked if I was making the quilt in the memory of anyone in particular…). There are some really beautiful Christmas fabrics out there these days. I’m already starting to get excited about the quilt for next year. Any ideas for a beautiful pattern?

I’ve been working on this project for a couple of weeks and I can’t wait to finish it! It’s going in Macey’s room, which is undergoing a few styling changes. Is this not the cutest fabric in the world? It’s from the Jack + Lulu's It's a Shore Thing collection. Got mine as a birthday gift from my sis via myfabricstore. Love, love, love.
